'Magic Brew' provides sophisticated deck building support for Magic: The Gathering players.
Introduction
Since 2017-01-12, this innovative 'Magic Brew' (2022-02-20 regenerated website) tool provides approximately 1500 Gatherer based Magic: The Gathering card search filters for most Constructed and Limited card pool formats (excluding not yet supported formats, e.g. Frontier, and 'special' sets, i.e. Planechase, Vanguard, Commander, Archenemy, Conspiracy, ...). In fact, all separate/combined rarity based subfilters together provide approximately 7500 actual card search queries per card pool. An extensive unifying conceptual framework clusters these filters for easy reference. However, it excludes multiplayer specific game mechanics. Glossary linkage (further referencing the online Comprehensive Rules) allows for keyword based filters lookup. Because many filters necessarily perform complex 'Oracle card text' pattern matching, all results have been manually verified for false positives (i.e. wrong results) and for a minimal amount of false negatives (i.e. missed results), especially upon occasional artificial search filter splitting (due to filter definition length limitations). Empty filter results have been removed from their respective card pools, avoiding clutter. Search filters also provide a link to their detailed specification/query. This way, in addition to being better understood, the filters can easily be copied/customized towards even more fine-grained results.
For clarity, all of this (plus future major website updates upon each new Standard-legal set release and future minor website updates upon each Modern/Eternal Masters reprint set release) is (will be) the result of a privately funded 'giving back to the community' project, in its non-commercial setting entirely free to use by anybody wanting to sharpen his/her Magic: The Gathering deck building skills. Enjoy !
Feedback is always welcome. For practical purposes, it will be considered for inclusion into the next major website update. Please, do keep in mind that some Vintage/Legacy search filter results might be slightly off until that time, i.e. in case new cards and/or game mechanics would have been introduced via 'special' sets after the previous Standard-legal website update.
*** Please note: as from early 2018 (after the 'Ixalan' set), due to professional and other private priorities, and due to recurring backward incompatible 'Oracle card text' changes (thereby repeatedly breaking some of the existing complex card search filters), this project is no longer performing extensive manual card search filter testing. For that matter, any potential filter result discrepancy can easily be identified via its linked detailed specification/query inspection. ***
Finally, some further ideas towards theoretical perfection (which unfortunately would imply restarting the current project from scratch) ...
